on Day 8 At these higher altitudes, acclimatization is essential before ascending further. Health experts recommend staying active, and a suggested way is to explore the Pugyen Gompa (4070m) with a one-day hike between Syaula and Sama. Time permitting, an option is to continue up the valley to the rugged Pugin glacier. Another choice is a challenging trip to Birendra Tal lake (3450m) and a demanding ascent to Manaslu Base Camp (4900m). North of Birendra Tal is believed to be Milarepa's Cave, a famous Buddha, known as a meditation retreat for the Buddhist saint.

For acclimatization, consult with your guide. If you're considering the long hike to Manaslu Base Camp, be prepared for extended hours. If this isn't your preference, opt for a shorter hike, explore the village, and enjoy rest in the teahouse

On Day 10, the trek from Samdu to Larke unfolds as an adventurous and challenging stretch of the Manaslu Circuit. Ascending through high-altitude landscapes, the trail provides breathtaking views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks. Crossing rugged terrains and potentially encountering snow-covered paths, the journey to Larke demands both physical stamina and an appreciation for the raw beauty of the region.

Larke, the day's destination, is a remote and serene spot, offering a sense of accomplishment at this higher altitude. The trek showcases the rugged grandeur of the Manaslu region, making it a memorable and rewarding segment of the overall trekking experience.

In Larke, teahouse facilities are limited and very basic, with poor outdoor toilets. Sometimes, trekkers may need to stay in tents, with four individuals sharing a tent or a room. Before the high pass, such arrangements may be necessary, so it's important not to have high expectations. Regardless of the conditions, embracing the journey with contentment is key. In case of windy conditions, it can be very cold, and without heating in dining halls and rooms, it's crucial to have a very warm sleeping bag and all necessary gear. Your understanding and preparation for such conditions will contribute to a more enjoyable journey. Thank you.

Engage in a discussion with your crew and guide regarding the essentials needed for the high pass the next day.

Embarking on a 4 to 6-hour trek, we will conquer the Lakya-La Pass (5100m), marking the highest elevation of this journey. The ascent can be challenging, particularly in wintry and blustery conditions, with potential hazards, especially if snow covers the pass. Your guide will assess the crossing's condition before departure from Samdo. The trail passes snow-covered cairns and traverses the moraine, leading to four frozen lakes. Upon reaching the pass, breathtaking views of peaks like Himlung Himal (7126m), Cheo Himal (6820m), Gyaji Kung (7030m), Kang Guru (6981m), and Annapurna II (7937m) await. After this spectacular photo opportunity, the descent towards Taubuche follows a challenging path before transitioning to a less demanding trail. The valley gradually opens up, descending to Bimtang (3720m), a vital trading post along the Tibetan salt route.

For an additional scenic detour, a trail above Bimtang leads to the translucent glacial lake of Pungkar Tal (4100m). As Himalayan weather can be unpredictable, thorough preparation is crucial for the hike. Since there may not be teahouses on the way to Larke Pass, carrying sufficient water and food, including chocolate bars, is advised. Moving slowly together ensures safety, mutual assistance, and collaborative efforts. Even after successfully crossing Larke Pass, the descent to Bimtang remains tricky, with downhill and slippery sections. Exercise caution and gratitude for your accomplishment

On Day 12, the trek descends from the scenic haven of Bimtang to Dharapani, transitioning from the higher altitudes of the Manaslu Circuit. The trail winds through diverse landscapes, from alpine meadows to lush forests, providing a pleasant contrast to the rugged terrains of preceding days. Passing charming villages along the way offers insights into local culture and lifestyle. Dharapani, your day's destination, is a welcoming settlement with its distinct character. This trek blends the joy of descending from high altitudes with the cultural richness of lower valleys, providing a well-rounded experience on the Manaslu Circuit.

As you successfully complete the trek to Larke Pass and enjoy a night in the serene teahouses of Bhimtang nestled among mountains, today's descent reconnects you with the beautiful section of the Annapurna Circuit trek. Although the journey is long, take it slowly and savor the last moments in the Himalayas. On your final night amidst the mountains, gather with your crew, share experiences, and express your gratitude through tipping. If you wish, indulge in drinks and food for a celebratory farewell. However, keep in mind that the journey back to Kathmandu involves a long off-road drive

On Day 13, the journey concludes with a drive from Dharapani to Kathmandu, marking the return leg of the trek. The descent from high-altitude regions signifies a noticeable transition in scenery.

As you drive back to Kathmandu, it becomes a reflective period, allowing trekkers to reminisce about the adventure and appreciate the cultural and natural wonders encountered along the Manaslu Circuit. The trip concludes upon reaching Kathmandu, providing a fitting end to this rewarding trekking experience. The journey back is quite long, and if traffic is heavy, it may take more than 13 hours to reach Kathmandu. Upon returning to Kathmandu, there's time for farewells, shopping, and preparation for the next day's departure. As of my last knowledge update in January 2022, the permit regulations and prices for trekking in the Manaslu region and Annapurna Circuit in Nepal may have changed. Manaslu Trek Permits:

Manaslu Restricted Area Permit (MCAP):

  • The Manaslu trek falls within a restricted area, and trekkers are required to obtain the Manaslu Restricted Area Permit (M CAP).
  • The cost for MCAP was around USD 100 for the first week, and USD 15 per day for each additional day.

Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP):

  • Part of the Manaslu Circuit overlaps with the Annapurna Conservation Area. Therefore, you also need to obtain the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP).

  • Seasonal Variations:

Peak Season (Autumn and Spring):

  • Autumn (September to November) and Spring (March to May) are the peak trekking seasons in Nepal.
  • Permit prices are generally the same throughout the year, but the trails are busier during peak seasons.

Off-Peak Season (Monsoon and Winter):

  • Monsoon season (June to August) and winter (December to February) are less popular for trekking due to weather conditions.
  • During the off-peak season, some permit fees may be reduced as an incentive for trekkers.
  • Always remember that regulations and prices are subject to change, so it's important to verify the current requirements before planning your trek. Additionally, consider hiring a licensed trekking agency to assist you with the permit process and ensure a smoother trekking experience.

  • Some teahouses, especially in more frequented areas, may offer pasta and pizza dishes. These are adapted to local tastes and may feature a mix of traditional and international flavors.

Soup:

  • Various types of soups, ranging from vegetable to chicken, are commonly available. Soups are not only delicious but also help in combating the chilly mountain temperatures.

Porridge and Pancakes:

  • For breakfast, teahouses often serve porridge with toppings like fruits or nuts. Pancakes with syrup or honey are another popular morning option.

Local Specialties:

  • Depending on the region, teahouses may feature local specialties. For example, in the Manaslu region, you might find dishes that showcase Tibetan and Nepali influences.

Beverages:

  • Teahouses typically offer a variety of hot drinks, including different types of tea (masala tea, ginger tea) and coffee. These are not only comforting but also help combat the effects of high altitude.

Snacks:

  • Teahouses often have a selection of snacks, such as energy bars, chocolate, and locally-made treats, providing quick and easy options for trekkers.

Remember that the availability of certain foods can depend on the altitude and remoteness of the teahouse. The menus are designed to accommodate the dietary needs and preferences of trekkers, and teahouse owners are usually accommodating to special requests when possible
