This 7 day Annapurna Base Camp trek is a compact yet powerful adventure that takes you from traditional Gurung villages and terraced hillsides into one of Nepal’s most dramatic high mountain landscapes.

Carefully designed for trekkers with limited time, this itinerary balances steady ascent with rewarding scenery each day. This classic Himalayan route begins with a scenic drive from Pokhara to Birethanti, followed by a trek to Ghandruk, a beautiful mountain village known for its Gurung culture and panoramic views of Annapurna South and Machhapuchhre. The trail continues to Chhomrong, the final major settlement before entering the Modi Khola valley.

From here, the landscape gradually shifts from lush rhododendron and bamboo forests to rugged alpine terrain. The path climbs past Dovan and Machhapuchhre Base Camp before opening into the vast natural amphitheater of Annapurna Base Camp. Surrounded by Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Machhapuchhre, trekkers stand at the heart of the Annapurna Sanctuary, encircled by some of the world's highest peaks.

After enjoying sunrise at base camp, the descent follows the same dramatic valley through Bamboo and Jhinu, concluding with a scenic return drive to Pokhara. This short Annapurna Base Camp trek offers the perfect combination of cultural immersion, high altitude adventure, and unforgettable Himalayan views.

After a scenic drive from Pokhara following the Modi River valley, your trek begins at Birethanti. The trail climbs gradually through stone steps, terraced farmland, and traditional hillside settlements. Women carry baskets along narrow paths, prayer flags flutter above doorways, and distant snow peaks begin to emerge beyond green ridgelines.

As you approach Ghandruk, the mountains suddenly feel closer. Annapurna South and Machhapuchhre dominate the skyline, glowing in late afternoon light. The village itself offers stone houses, slate roofs, and deep Gurung cultural heritage. It is a powerful first encounter with the Annapurna region.

The day begins with a descent toward the Kimrong Khola through forested paths before a sustained climb toward Chhomrong. Long stone staircases test your rhythm and endurance. Each pause reveals increasingly dramatic mountain views, with Annapurna South rising sharply above the valley.

Chhomrong marks the gateway to the deeper Annapurna Sanctuary. From here, you leave behind larger settlements and begin moving toward a more rugged and remote landscape.

Today the atmosphere shifts. After descending steep steps to Chhomrong Khola, you climb through Sinuwa and enter dense bamboo and rhododendron forest. The trail narrows, the valley tightens, and the sound of the river echoes between steep rock walls.

The air feels cooler and more alpine. Waterfalls cascade down sheer cliffs. The human presence becomes quieter. You are now fully inside the Modi Khola valley, moving deeper toward the sanctuary.

Dovan is a peaceful forest settlement, surrounded by tall trees and towering terrain.

Distance: 12 km (7.5 mi) | Duration: 6 hrs | Ascent: +1,050 m (+3,445 ft) | Descent: –600 m (–1,969 ft)

Today feels like a transition into another world.

The forest begins to thin as you pass Deurali. The valley opens dramatically into a high alpine corridor carved by ancient glaciers. Massive rock faces rise on both sides, and the landscape becomes raw and exposed.

As you approach Machhapuchhre Base Camp, the sacred peak of Machhapuchhre rises sharply above you, its double summit cutting into the sky. The sense of scale is overwhelming. The air is noticeably thinner now, and each step feels heavier.

This is one of the most visually dramatic days of the trek.

This is the defining moment of the Annapurna Base Camp Trek.

The trail rises gradually across a wide glacial basin. Suddenly, the Annapurna Sanctuary reveals itself in full scale. Peaks surround you in a complete 360-degree amphitheater.

Annapurna I towers ahead. Annapurna South and Hiunchuli guard the flanks. Machhapuchhre stands sharp and sacred behind you.

Reaching Annapurna Base Camp at 4,130 meters is emotional and humbling. At sunset, the snow peaks glow gold and pink. At sunrise, the mountains ignite with light. It is one of the most powerful mountain experiences in Nepal.

After sunrise inside the sanctuary, begin the long descent. The dramatic high alpine landscape slowly transitions back into forest as oxygen levels rise and breathing becomes easier.

Although downhill, this day demands endurance. The sustained descent requires careful footing. As you re enter bamboo forest, the air feels warmer and the environment greener.

You carry the memory of standing at the center of the Himalayas.

The final trekking day includes short climbs back toward Chhomrong before descending to Jhinu. The warmer lower valley signals your return from high altitude wilderness.

After lunch, drive back to Pokhara. Arriving beside Phewa Lake feels almost surreal after days surrounded by towering Himalayan giants.

The journey may be short in duration, but the impact of standing inside the Annapurna Sanctuary stays with you long after the trek ends.

FAQs Expand All Close All

The Annapurna Base Camp Trek is considered moderate. The main challenge comes from sustained uphill and downhill walking, long stone staircases, and trekking up to 4,130 meters.

Most days involve 5 to 7 hours of walking at a steady pace. No technical climbing skills are required. First-time trekkers with good physical preparation complete this trek successfully.

What matters most:

• Ability to walk several hours daily
• Good leg strength for stair sections
• Steady pacing at a higher altitude

Our guides maintain a safe and gradual pace to ensure comfort and acclimatization.

Although lower than Everest Base Camp, altitude can still affect trekkers above 3,000 meters.

We manage altitude through:

• Gradual ascent
• Daily health monitoring
• Encouraging hydration
• Adjusting pace if required

If symptoms occur, our trained guides respond immediately and prioritize safety.

Unlike the Everest region, this trek does not depend on mountain flights. Access is by road from Pokhara, which makes logistics more stable.

In rare cases of road blockage due to landslides or heavy rain, we adjust departure times or use alternative vehicle arrangements. Our team manages all logistics on your behalf.

We operate small groups to maintain flexibility and safety.

Small groups allow:

• Better pacing
• Personalized attention
• Stronger safety monitoring
• More comfortable lodge arrangements

Private departures are also available.

Our guides are:

• Government licensed trekking guides
• Trained in high altitude awareness
• Experienced in the Annapurna region
• Certified in first aid and basic emergency response

They monitor your condition daily and adjust pacing as needed.

Safety is our top priority.

We ensure:

• Gradual altitude gain
• Daily health checks
• Clear communication
• Emergency evacuation coordination if needed
• Proper briefing before departure

All trekkers must carry travel insurance covering helicopter evacuation up to 4,500 meters.

Accommodation is in traditional teahouses with twin-sharing rooms and shared bathrooms.

Meals include:

• Dal bhat
• Rice and noodle dishes
• Pasta
• Eggs and breakfast sets
• Soups and hot drinks

Food variety decreases at higher elevations, but remains nutritious and sufficient for trekking energy needs.

Each porter carries up to 20 kg total, shared between two trekkers.

We recommend keeping your duffel bag under 10 kg. You carry a small daypack with personal essentials.

Essential items include:

• Down jacket
• Waterproof outer layer
• Layered clothing
• Warm hat and gloves
• Quality trekking boots
• Sleeping bag
• Trekking poles

A detailed season-specific packing list is provided after booking.

Yes. You may:

• Add Poon Hill
• Extend nights in Pokhara
• Arrange a helicopter return from base camp
• Choose a private departure

We customize based on your time frame and fitness level.
