Mera Peak Climbing is a thrilling high-altitude adventure located in Nepal’s Solu-Khumbu region, standing at 6,476 meters (21,247 feet). Although the full expedition can take up to 19 days, we typically organize this trip in 16 days, ideal for adventurous trekkers seeking a well-paced, exciting climb. The region is rich in mountain history and Sherpa culture, known as the gateway to some of the world’s highest peaks and home to the legendary mountaineers who have shaped Himalayan climbing. The journey begins with a breathtaking flight from Kathmandu or Ramechhap to Lukla, followed by trekking through diverse landscapes that range from lush rhododendron forests and terraced farmland to alpine meadows, glaciers, and snow-capped summits. You’ll pass vibrant Sherpa villages like Namche Bazaar and the remote Hinku Valley, soaking in local traditions and hospitality.
The trek covers approximately 110 kilometers (68 miles) round trip, with an average daily walking distance of 6 to 7 hours over varied terrain. Along the way, you will witness incredible biodiversity including rare flora and fauna within the Makalu-Barun National Park, adding to the richness of the experience. Weather conditions are generally best during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) seasons, offering clear skies and stable temperatures, though mountain weather can be unpredictable, so proper gear and guidance are essential.
Acclimatization is carefully built into the itinerary to ensure your body adjusts safely to increasing altitudes, minimizing risks like altitude sickness. The trek leads you through scenic campsites such as Tangnag and Khare (base camp), before ascending to the high camp at 5,800 meters. The summit day challenges you with glacier travel and snow slopes, guided by experienced Sherpas who provide technical support and ensure safety. The summit rewards climbers with panoramic views of iconic Himalayan peaks including Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Kanchenjunga, making the hard work truly worthwhile.
For those seeking an even greater challenge, we also offer combined expeditions such as Mera Peak and Island Peak climbing via the Amphu Lapcha Pass, a 22 to 24-day journey that includes crossing the technical Amphu Lapcha glacier pass, adding an exciting dimension of mountaineering skill to your adventure.
Upon arrival in Kathmandu, our expert team assists you with trek preparation, permits, and logistics. The drive from Kathmandu to Manthali (Ramechhap Airport) takes about 5-6 hours before your flight to Lukla, where your Himalayan journey begins. With a professional crew of certified Sherpa guides and climbing experts, your safety and enjoyment are our top priorities.

Upon landing at Lukla (2,860m / 9,383 ft), you’ll meet your expert guide and crew and start trekking toward Chhutang. The trek is about 8–9 km (5–6 hours) with moderate trail conditions—first descending to the Dudh Koshi River, then ascending through forests, villages, and suspension bridges. Along the way, you’ll find basic yet comfortable teahouses offering meals like dal bhat, noodles, and soups.
Chhutang is situated at 2,800 meters (9,184 feet), making it a perfect place to rest and acclimatize. Stay hydrated, listen to your body, and take your time to enjoy the breathtaking scenery and rich culture of the Everest region as you begin your Mera Peak journey.
Today’s trek covers about 8 km (6 -7 hours) on a moderately difficult trail with steep ups and some downs. The route passes through beautiful alpine forests and meadows, with snowy patches at higher altitudes. The trail can be slippery, so go slow and follow your guide’s safety tips.
Your destination, Tuli Kharka, is a small settlement known for its warm and welcoming teahouses, where trekkers often share stories around a cozy fire after a long day. These basic lodges provide simple meals and a chance to rest and acclimatize before higher climbs.
Remember to stay hydrated, watch for altitude symptoms, and enjoy the stunning Himalayan views along the way. If you’re on the longer trek, challenging passes like the Amphu Lapcha Pass (5,845m) await in the coming days.
Today, after resting in Tuli Kharka (4,100m), you’ll trek to Kothe (4,182m / 13,716 ft), covering about 9–10 km in 5–6 hours. The trail offers a mix of ups and downs through dense rhododendron forests, green meadows, and along the Dudh Koshi River, with stunning views of Mera Peak. You’ll stop for lunch at a teahouse along the way to rest and refuel.
Kothe is a small village with basic teahouses where you can rest and enjoy meals. As you gain altitude, it’s important to maintain a steady pace, stay hydrated, and monitor your body for altitude symptoms. Weather can change rapidly, so be prepared with warm, layered, and waterproof clothing.
Along the way, immerse yourself in the rich Sherpa culture and spectacular mountain scenery. Always respect local customs and follow Leave No Trace principles to protect this beautiful region.
Today, after breakfast in Kothe, begin your trek to Thaknak (4,358m/14,298ft). The trail gradually ascends through the Hinku Valley, offering breathtaking views of Mera Peak and surrounding mountains. Trek alongside the Hinku River, passing alpine meadows and glacial moraines.
Stop for lunch at a teahouse in Gondishung, a small herder’s settlement. After lunch, visit the ancient Lungsumgba Gompa to receive blessings for your journey.
After about 5-6 hours and 8 kilometers (5 miles), arrive in Thaknak. Settle into a teahouse, enjoy a warm meal, and rest for the night as you prepare for higher altitudes.
Today, after breakfast in Thaknak, begin your trek to Khare (5,045m/16,486ft). The trail ascends steadily, passing through glacial moraines and alpine meadows, with stunning views of peaks like Kusum Kanguru and Peak 43.
Stop for lunch at a teahouse in Dig Kharka (4,650m/15,256ft) to rest and refuel. After lunch, continue alongside the Hinku Nup and Shar Glaciers. The trail steepens as you near Khare, offering breathtaking views of Mera Peak.
After about 5-6 hours and 10 kilometers (6.2 miles), arrive in Khare. Settle into a teahouse to relax, acclimatize, and prepare for your Mera Peak ascent. Enjoy a hearty meal and rest for the night.
Today, spend the day in Khare for important acclimatization. After breakfast, take a short trek to Mera La (5,415m/17,766ft), about 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) round trip, which takes around 4-5 hours. This slow hike offers spectacular views and helps your body adjust to the high altitude, reducing the risk of altitude sickness.
In the afternoon, return to Khare for pre-climb training. Your guide will teach you how to use climbing gear like crampons, harnesses, ascenders, and ropes, and practice essential techniques for a safe ascent.
Acclimatization and going slowly are crucial for your safety, helping prevent altitude sickness and ensuring you’re prepared for the climb.
After training, relax and enjoy dinner at the teahouse. Rest well for the challenging days ahead.
Today, after an early breakfast in Khare, begin your trek to Mera High Camp (5,780m/18,963ft) via Mera La. The trail starts with a steep and challenging ascent to Mera La (5,415m/17,766ft), covering about 6 kilometers (3.7 miles) and taking 6-7 hours. Enjoy stunning views of Everest, Makalu, and other peaks along the way.
Go slowly and take your time-safety and proper acclimatization are top priorities to reduce the risk of altitude sickness. The trail includes rocky and icy sections with glacial terrain, so careful navigation is essential. Stop for lunch halfway to rest and refuel.
From Mera La, continue trekking to Mera High Camp, covering a total distance of about 10 kilometers (6.2 miles). Upon arrival, settle into the tented camp, where all arrangements and gear are provided for your comfort.
Today, wake up early around 2-3 AM for the final climb to Mera Peak summit (6,476 m). Using headlamps and climbing gear, you’ll navigate a steep, icy 2 km trail with crevasses, snowfields, and challenging slopes over 7-9 hours. Enjoy stunning views of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and Kanchenjunga.
Please take all necessary gear suitable for cold and changing weather conditions to stay safe and comfortable.
Our experienced guide ensures your safety and support throughout. If you feel unwell at altitude, please talk to the team and consider backup plans - your health comes first.
After reaching the summit, celebrate and carefully descend to Mera High Camp, rest, then continue down 10 km to Khare for a warm meal and rest. Take it slow, stay safe, and make your dream come true!
Today is an extra reserve day for flexibility and safety. If you don’t feel well or need extra time to acclimatize, this day can be used for rest. It helps manage delays from weather or health issues, reduces altitude sickness risk, and ensures a successful and safe Mera Peak climb.
Today, after breakfast in Khare, begin your descent back to Kothe (3,691 m) through the beautiful Hinku Valley, retracing your steps along a scenic route. Enjoy lush landscapes, alpine meadows, and glacial streams. The trek covers about 15 km and takes 6-7 hours.
Upon arrival in Kothe, settle into a teahouse, relax, and enjoy a warm meal. Rest well after a rewarding day. Excited to come back down after your achievement, but remember-it’s still a long way back to Lukla!
Today, after breakfast in Kothe, start your trek to Thuli Kharka (4,300 m). The trail steadily ascends through dense rhododendron and pine forests with panoramic views of Mera Peak. The 12 km trek takes about 6-7 hours, with a lunch stop at a local teahouse.
The trail is a mix of uphill, downhill, flat, slippery, and rocky sections, especially challenging in snow season. Follow your guide’s instructions carefully. Upon arrival in Thuli Kharka, settle into a teahouse, enjoy a hearty meal, and rest well for the next day.
Today, after an early breakfast in Thuli Kharka, begin your trek to Lukla (2,860 m) via the Zatrwa La Pass (4,600 m). The trail includes a steep, challenging ascent with stunning views, followed by a careful descent.
The 13 km trek takes about 7-8 hours and can be rough during snow season.
After a long day’s walk, enjoy the final stretch to Lukla as much as you can. Upon arrival, settle into a teahouse, relax, and celebrate with your crew-don’t forget to tip them as a token of appreciation.
Prepare for your flight back to Kathmandu the next day, marking the end of your adventure.
Today, take a morning flight from Lukla to Kathmandu (1,400 m) or Ramechhap-about 30-35 minutes with stunning Himalayan views.
If flying to Ramechhap, enjoy a 5-hour scenic drive (135 km) to Kathmandu. Upon arrival, you’ll be transferred to your hotel to relax or explore the city.

AustriaBest Trip and amazingly enjoyed
30th November, 2024
We recently completed the exhilarating Mera Peak trek in June 2023 and highly recommend it for those in good physical condition looking for a challenge. Our guides, Nim Dorjee and Kami Sherpa, were exceptional, helping us reach the summit despite our limited climbing experience. The trip was well-organized, fun, and supportive. While the food mainly consists of rice, soups, and noodles, we suggest bringing protein supplements. Sole Encounters Trekking made everything seamless, and we’re grateful for their excellent service. We’d definitely trek with them again!

Our experience with Sole Encounters Trekking was fantastic. Prem's support made a big difference, and our guide was attentive throughout.
