Embark on an Amaizing Himalayan expedition with Sole Encounters Adventure. to Mera Peak Climbing (6,476 meters / 21,247 feet), the highest trekking peak in Nepal, nestled deep in the remote and scenic Hinku Valley of the Solu Khumbu region. First successfully climbed in 1953 by British climbers J.O.M. Roberts and Sen Tenzing, Mera Peak has since gained popularity among trekkers seeking a high-altitude challenge with relatively low technical difficulty. It offers an excellent introduction to mountaineering, surrounded by some of the tallest mountains on earth.
The journey begins with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla (2,860m), or during peak trekking seasons-spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November) a 6-hour drive to Ramechhap Airport (Manthali) followed by a short flight to Lukla. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, trekkers are greeted by our representative, who assists with trip preparations and encourages exploration of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the Kathmandu Valley before or after the trek.
From Lukla, the trail leads south and east, diverging from the standard Everest Base Camp route into the less-traveled and pristine Hinku Valley. The trek passes through a series of picturesque Sherpa and Rai villages such as Paiya, Pangom, Ningsow, and Kothe, where trekkers stay in cozy teahouses, sharing warm meals and stories with local families. As you follow ancient yak trails, the lush forests of rhododendron, bamboo, and pine slowly give way to alpine terrain, revealing views of snow-capped peaks and dramatic glacial valleys.
The trail continues upward through Thaknak and finally to Khare, the main base for Mera Peak, where trekkers acclimatize and receive practical mountaineering training. From here, you’ll travel across the Mera La glacier, navigating high-altitude terrain and camping for one or two nights at Base Camp (5,300m) and High Camp (5,800m). The final push to the summit begins before dawn, and while the climb is non-technical, it demands stamina and determination due to high altitude and glacier travel.
Reaching the summit of Mera Peak rewards climbers with panoramic views of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and Kanchenjunga-five of the six highest mountains in the world. The experience is not only visually spectacular but also emotionally powerful, as you stand on one of Nepal’s grandest vantage points.
The descent follows the same scenic trail, allowing trekkers to further absorb the majestic beauty of the Hinku and Inkhu Valleys, rich in biodiversity and dotted with grazing yaks, wild mountain goats, and Himalayan pheasants. The trail lies within the Makalu Barun National Park, home to rare alpine ecosystems and traditional highland settlements, preserving Nepal’s natural and cultural heritage.
With an average of 5-7 hours of trekking per day, increasing in difficulty above 5,000 meters, climbers must be well-prepared with a solid fitness level and mental resilience. Our itineraries are carefully designed with ample acclimatization days and built-in safety measures. Guided by Prem Bahadur Tamang, a mountain leader with over 24 years of field experience, Sole Encounters Trekking ensures a journey that is safe, immersive, and deeply rewarding.
From exploring ancient temples in Kathmandu to conquering high-altitude glaciers and camping under Himalayan stars, this expedition blends mountaineering excitement, cultural encounters, and sustainable travel practices. Mera Peak Climbing is a once-in-a-lifetime adventure, offering both a personal challenge and the joy of discovering Nepal’s untouched highlands with a dedicated and local expert team.
