FAQs

When is the best time for Everest Base Camp Trek?

The best times for trekking are during the spring ( febuary  to May) and autumn (September to December ) seasons, characterized by favorable weather conditions

Are both vegetarian and non-vegetarian meal options offered during the trek?

Certainly, teahouses along the trail provide both vegetarian and non-vegetarian meal options. However, we recommend considering a vegetarian diet during the trek. This suggestion is made to ensure your well-being, as sometimes meat may not be fresh, potentially causing digestive issues. Teahouses where we stay always serve fresh meals, prioritizing safety. Eating outside may pose risks, and our focus is on conducting a safe trek, avoiding consumption of potentially unsafe or unhygienic food

How difficult / need experience on this trek ?

The Everest Base Camp trek is a challenging adventure, requiring you to walk 6-7 hours a day. While prior experience in hiking or trekking is not mandatory, having engaged in such activities is definitely a plus. We've witnessed individuals from various backgrounds, shapes, and sizes successfully completing the trek. The primary challenge arises when altitude sickness sets in, impacting your body. It's beneficial to prepare yourself physically before heading to Nepal by enhancing your stamina and oxygen intake. Keep in mind: the better prepared you are, the more enjoyable your trek will be!

How much does the Mt. Everest Base Camp cost, and what is included in the package?

Costs can vary, generally encompassing permits, accommodations, Nepali meals during the trek, guides, and porters. However, international flights, personal gear, and additional expenses are typically not included in the package provided by Sole Encounters Trekking Pvt. Ltd., which also covers logistics and trek arrangements

What are the recommended methods for acclimatizing to high altitude during the trek?

The schedule includes specific days for acclimatization, underscoring the significance of proceeding at a gradual pace, ensuring proper hydration, and paying heed to your body's cues. It is advised to move slowly, consume fresh food and beverages, prioritize acclimatization, and sleep at lower altitudes.

Is there the option to charge electronic devices / wifi /Hot shower while on the trek?

Charging services are provided in teahouses at an additional cost; however, it's recommended to bring a power bank and extra batteries. Access to Wi-Fi and hot showers is available for an extra fee. Please note that charging points are not available in every room; instead, they are situated in the dining hall. This arrangement is established by the Himalayan lodges, not by us.

What permits are necessary for undertaking the Mt. Everest Base Camp Trek?

Certainly, all visitors are required to obtain both TIMS (Trekkers' Information Management System) and Sagarmatha National Park permits for the Mt. Everest Base Camp Trek. Additionally, permits for national parks, temples, and mountain climbing in Nepal involve fees determined by regulations set forth by the Nepalese government and local village development communities.

Are restroom facilities or teahouse toilets available along the trek route?

Certainly, teahouses offer basic toilet facilities, with some providing Western-style toilets while others have squat toilets. Most teahouses have toilets located just outside the rooms, usually on a shared basis. It's important to note that cleanliness may vary, and at higher altitudes, some Western toilets might not flush conventionally. Instead, water can be used with a jug for flushing. It is advisable to use personal toiletries. During daytime hikes, natural toilets along the trail are an option, but it's crucial to avoid using them in or near rivers.

Is travel insurance a requirement for the trek?

Certainly, it is strongly advised to have extensive travel insurance that includes coverage for medical emergencies, evacuation or emergency rescue, and trip cancellations. As you ascend to higher elevations, the need for comprehensive coverage becomes more critical. In the event that you are unable to complete the trek and need to return early for any reason, logistics costs may be incurred, and you can later claim the incurred amount from your insurance

What is the expected level of cold during the trek, and what items should be included in my packing list for the journey?

Clothing Layers:

Moisture-wicking base layers
Insulating mid-layers (fleece or down jackets)

Are there ATM and money services accessible in Kathmandu, Nepal, and along the trek route?

Certainly, ATMs and money exchanges are accessible in Kathmandu and Pokhara. However, it's important to note that ATM services along the trek route are limited. Hence, it is recommended to carry sufficient cash in Nepalese Rupees. While money exchanges may offer rates slightly less favorable than government rates, it's advisable to use local currency for payments in towns. Paying by card in town may incur an additional bank service charge of around 4-5%. In Lukla and Namche Bazaar, ATMs and money exchange services are available, though rates may not be as favorable as in Kathmandu. When staying in teahouses and making payments for food, drinks, or shopping, it is preferable to use Nepalese Rupees in cash. Therefore, we suggest ensuring you have enough cash with you before embarking on your trip

Is it possible to hire a porter or guide for the trek, and what is the associated cost?

Certainly, it's common to hire a guide or porter for the trek. The costs can vary, and there is room for negotiation. As a local-based company in Nepal, we always strive to offer reasonable prices, avoiding excessive charges. Typically, our packages include necessary crew members, but if you require an additional porter or guide, we are more than willing to accommodate your needs

First Aid Kits: Guides carry comprehensive first aid kits to address minor injuries and health concerns.

Emergency Evacuation Plans: Well-defined emergency evacuation plans are in place, and guides are trained to coordinate evacuations if necessary.

Local Assistance: Utilization of local resources and assistance is readily available, and communication with nearby villages or settlements is established.

Are domestic flights or alternative modes of transportation included in the trek cost?

Yes, domestic flights within the trek cost are generally included. However, in the event of unforeseen circumstances or changes in the itinerary, such as adverse weather conditions affecting flights to Lukla, alternative plans may be necessary.

In such cases, alternative transportation options like driving or helicopter arrangements to Lukla may be considered. If the need for alternative plans arises, an additional cost of $500 per person would apply on top of the normal flight cost. We are committed to assisting you in coordinating these alternative activities and maintaining constant communication.

If driving is part of the alternative transportation, it is important to retain the paid slip, as you can later claim reimbursement from your travel insurance for the extra expense incurred. Rest assured, our team will work closely with you throughout the process to ensure a smooth and well-managed experience

Can you provide insights into the standard of teahouse accommodations along the trek, including the amenities available?

Yes, the teahouse accommodations along the trek are available, but it's essential to set expectations that they are basic. While we will make efforts to provide upgrades whenever possible, it's important to understand that teahouses generally offer modest facilities. The focus is on providing a comfortable and authentic experience amidst the trekking environment. Amenities in teahouses typically include basic sleeping arrangements with cozy beds, shared restroom facilities, and communal dining areas. While the emphasis is on simplicity, the warmth of the hospitality and the stunning natural surroundings add to the overall charm of the teahouse experience. If you have specific preferences or requirements, please let us know in advance, and we'll do our best to accommodate your needs within the constraints of the trekking environment

How is transportation arranged for getting to and from the starting/ending points of the trek?

Yes, transportation to and from the starting and ending points of the trek is arranged. However, it's important to note that, at times, shared transportation may be provided to optimize logistics and accommodate group dynamics. While we strive to ensure a comfortable and efficient travel experience, sharing transportation helps manage costs and reduce environmental impact.

Rest assured, we prioritize your convenience and safety, and we will communicate any details regarding shared transportation well in advance. If you have specific concerns or preferences, feel free to let us know, and we'll do our best to address them within the scope of the trek arrangements

How much budget should we allocate for the trek?

For the trek, it is recommended to allocate a budget in the range of $450 to $500 carry with you  This amount should cover your basic expenses, including emergency situations. Additionally, it's advisable to carry some Nepalese Rupees for small, local transactions.

Ensure you have a Visa card or MasterCard with you, and verify that they are in good working order. While these cards are widely accepted, especially in more populated areas, having some cash on hand is useful in more remote locations where card acceptance may be limited.

Keep in mind that personal expenses, tipping, and occasional shopping may require additional funds. It's always a good idea to have a buffer amount for unexpected situations or optional activities that may enhance your trekking experience.

  • Basic first aid kit and emergency assistance are provided.
  • Local crews are enthusiastic, friendly, and genuinely caring, ensuring your well-being throughout the journey.

  • Travel insurance is not provided and should be arranged independently.
  • Costs associated with medical evacuation are not covered in the trek cost.
  • Rest assured, our local crews are dedicated to making your trek a memorable and safe experience, offering assistance, guidance, and a friendly connection with the rich local culture.
What can we expect in terms of food and drink options during the trek?

In terms of food and drink options during the trek, you can expect a variety of local items. Meals typically include Dhal Bhat and rice, noodles, bread, porridge, and egg-based items. For beverages, tea, coffee, and hot lemon drinks are commonly available.

Regarding drinking water, you have the option to purify local water or purchase mineral water. However, it's important to note that buying mineral water can be a bit expensive. As a practice, we primarily provide local items to enhance your cultural experience, and we hope this aligns with your preferences.

Hot water is available for an additional cost, and it can be arranged to be placed inside your beds for added convenience. However, it's worth mentioning that in Gorakshep, especially after reaching the base camp, normal water may not be available. Instead, mineral water will be provided for your safety during the highest point of the trek, with a cost of 500-600 NPR.

Additionally, staying well-hydrated and being mindful of your body's signals are key aspects of preventing altitude sickness

Do we get Visa on Arrival In Kathmandu Airport ?

As of my last knowledge update in January 2022, Nepal typically offers visa on arrival for many nationalities at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. However, please note that immigration policies can change, and it's advisable to check for the latest information from official sources.

If the policy is still in place, here are details on obtaining a visa on arrival in Kathmandu:

Eligibility: Travelers from various countries are eligible for a visa on arrival. The list of eligible countries can be checked on the official website of the Department of Immigration of Nepal or the Nepalese embassy/consulate in your home country.

Duration of Stay: The visa on arrival is typically available for various durations, such as 15, 30, or 90 days.

Required Documents:

A valid passport with at least six months validity from the date of arrival.
Passport-sized photos (usually two).
Completed visa application form, which is often available at the airport.
Visa Fees: The visa fee varies based on the duration of stay. Payment is usually accepted in major currencies, and it's recommended to carry the amount in cash.

Payment Method: Cash is commonly accepted. Some ATMs are available at the airport if you need to withdraw local currency.

Additional Requirements: In certain cases, you might be asked for proof of onward travel, hotel reservation, or details about your itinerary.

Process at the Airport: Upon arrival, you will fill out the visa application form, present the required documents, pay the visa fee, and undergo a brief immigration process.

Visa Extension: If you plan to stay longer than the initially granted period, visa extensions can be requested at the Immigration Office in Kathmandu or other major cities.

Please note that immigration policies are subject to change, and it's crucial to verify the current requirements and procedures closer to your travel date from the official sources, such as the Department of Immigration of Nepal or the Nepalese embassy/consulate in your country.

Do we Give tipping for crews ?

In Nepal, tipping is not traditionally a cultural practice, but it has become customary in the trekking and tourism industry. Tipping is a way to show appreciation for the hard work and service provided by the trekking crew. While it is not mandatory, it is generally expected, and the amount can vary based on your satisfaction with the services.

For trekking crews in Nepal, including guides, porters, and other support staff, it's common to offer a combined tip at the end of the trek. The recommended amount often depends on the duration and difficulty of the trek. In the case you mentioned, a suggested tipping range of $170-230 Per customer reflects a general guideline.

Here's a breakdown of how you might distribute the tip among the crew:

Guide: Guides often receive a larger portion of the tip as they play a crucial role in ensuring the success and safety of the trek. The guide is responsible for navigation, providing information, and managing the overall trek.

Porters: Porters carry heavy loads and contribute significantly to the trek. They typically receive a share of the tip based on the amount carried and the duration of the trek.

Support Staff: Depending on the trekking company and the services provided, there might be additional support staff such as cooks or assistant guides. Their tip is usually distributed based on their level of involvement and responsibilities.

It's important to note that these recommended amounts are just guidelines, and you are free to adjust them based on your level of satisfaction and budget. Communication with your trekking company or guide about tipping practices is also encouraged to ensure that your appreciation is distributed fairly among the crew members.

Traveller Useful Information

Mount Everest, standing at 8,849 meters, is the Earth's highest peak located between Nepal and Tibet, an autonomous region of China. Named after George Everest in the 19th century, its Tibetan name is Chomolungma, meaning "Mother Goddess of the World," and Nepali name is Sagarmatha. The first recorded summit was achieved by Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay in 1953. The Sherpa people, known for their mountain-climbing expertise, assist climbers and traditionally engage in farming and trade. Climbing Everest is a perilous expedition due to avalanches, weather conditions, and the "death zone" above 8,000 meters, where altitude sickness poses severe risks. The climbing industry faces controversies, including traffic jams, pollution, and the exploitation of Sherpas, raising ethical concerns in this challenging pursuit.

Trekking to the Everest Base Camp

23rd September, 2022

Having booked online, and only spoken to an cheerful and confident , we did arrive in Kathmandu with some trepidation of what was in store.

Our unfounded fears turned to extreme satisfaction over the next 14 days when three families and a friend trekked to the Everest Base Camp, cheerfully and ably guided by Binod Nepal.

Responsive, responsible, happy and fully in command, Binod successfully managed this amateur motely group. Requests were always fulfilled to satisfaction. Unusual and untimely ones too! Always with a smile.

Our abrupt changes in plan were heeded to, at no extra cost!

Our assistant guides Anurag and Dilip were equally helpful. The porters were happy youngsters who also exchanged pleasantries throughout the trek.

No hesitation in recommending Actual Adventures for a wonderful time on the Himalayas!

Lifetime Experience- Everest Base Camp Trek

2nd March, 2023

Just had a exceptional time trekking to Everest base camp. I would like to thank you prem and his team for getting warm welcome and support during this trek period.Their mixed neighborhood understanding of the area, religions, traditions and records are unmatchable.

Also discovering out about the tremendous work that Freedom Adventure does with disabled youth and giving younger nearby Nepalese the education and possibilities to turn out to be high-quality courses to help themselves and their families. Giving now not solely aspirations to younger team who prefer to turn out to be guides, however the sources and guide to truly make their goals possible. That’s a purpose to be proud of.

These guys are simply great, I will visit again for another trekking destinatil,

Thanks You Prem and Sole Encounters Trekking

Awesome trek & more of an Adventure

20th February, 2023

Awesome trek & more of an adventure than we bargained for! The weather meant that the flight to Lukla was cancelled, our excellent Our Tour Guide Pasang Sherpa provided us with the all the options we had to keeped the Everest base camp dream alive. If we weren't on an organised tour I don't think we would have been able to make it to everest base camp as the itinerary went completely out of the window. Sunil and the talented team worked really hard to ensure we were able to get back on schedule after a number of long days hiking, they always kept spirits up, whilst ensuring we ate and stayed in nice places. The scenery was stunning and changed daily, we enjoyed plenty of laughs and uno in the evenings. Could not recommend this trip highly enough/awesome Team / excellent service & hostpitalities / local culturals& local food omg led the trip as professional way we love them

Everest Base camp Wonderfull and great memories

28th June, 2023

It's fantastic experience on the Everest Base Camp was absolutely mind-blowing and exceeded your expectations. The Sole Encounters Team, led by 20years experienced guide , provided exceptional service and made sure you felt safe throughout the journey.

Traveling as a solo traveler can sometimes be a concern, but it's great that you were able to join a group of eight strangers who turned out to be an amazing team. Sharing laughter and creating memories with them made the experience even more special. It's wonderful to hear that you now have cherished memories that will last a lifetime.

As someone who has already completed the Everest Base Camp trek, you were able to compare the local experience and food with that of the Annapurna Circuit. The landscape and route of the Annapurna Circuit are truly remarkable, ranging from lush green forests to remote dusty plains and high-altitude mountain passes. It's a trek that offers a diverse range of natural beauty.

The accommodation and facilities along the trek exceeded your expectations, with most rooms having power and Wi-Fi. The availability of showers, albeit at a small charge, is a welcome convenience during a trek. The Nepalese hospitality, known for its warmth and welcoming nature, impressed you once again.

It's wonderful to hear that your experience on the Annapurna Circuit has left such a positive impression on you that you're already considering coming back. Nepal has a lot to offer in terms of natural beauty and adventure, and it's great to see your enthusiasm to explore more.

Thank you for your amazing experience

It's wonderful to  trek to Everest Base Camp with Prem in April 2023 was such a fantastic experience! It sounds like he truly excelled as a guide, being highly organized, knowledgeable, kind, and fun. Safety is paramount during treks, and it's great to know that you always felt secure with Prem leading the way. The fact that he made the trek a special experience for your group speaks volumes about his skills and dedication.

It's also great to hear that Prem possesses a wealth of knowledge about trekking, safety precautions, and the local culture. Having a guide who can provide such insights enhances the overall experience and allows you to truly appreciate the journey. Your enthusiasm for another trek and your desire to have Prem as your guide again speaks volumes about the incredible time you had.

Fantastic trip

29th June, 2023

6 of us started on the Gokyo via Everest Base Camp Trek, and along the way we made some great new friends - among the trekkers and guides and supporters alike.

Head guide Prem was fresh and active and solicitous, but in fact, they all were, putting themselves before the guests, staying up later and getting up earlier than us all. Sushil trainer guide was such a cool cat, always striking a pose, and He will go far. Nima Tamang was very knowledgable about everything and Amrit was a huge boost to morale, always ready with an encouraging comments. One of our supporters crews will also be a guide soon, I think - his English is good, and he is a fantastic comedy and good dancer

Amaizing journey to Everest base Camp of our life time

1st July, 2023

Our journey with Sole Encounters was absolutely incredible. Despite a last-minute change in plans to the Everest Base Camp and the stunning Himalayan landscapes, Mr. Bhim Tamang effortlessly accommodated our needs. From the moment we were picked up at the airport to our drop-off, everything was flawlessly organized.

The entire adventure was an extraordinary experience, thanks to our exceptional guide Prem Tamang and the knowledgeable Sherpas. They provided us with incredible support and took great care of us throughout the trip. Prem's valuable insights, recommendations on local cuisine and beverages, and his deep understanding of the local culture left a lasting impression on us. His patience and assistance during our ascent to Kala Pathar were truly remarkable, ensuring we could reach the summit and creating unforgettable memories.

Moreover, our guide made every day of the journey special. He shared local knowledge, cultural insights, and entertained us with fun jokes, laughter, and stories. He introduced us to delightful local foods and taught us valuable outdoor skills. This personalized touch made our trip even more exceptional and memorable, we highly recommended them

An Amaizing Trek

4th July, 2023

Sole Encounters proved to be an exceptionally professional company throughout my entire journey, from the initial booking process to the moment of departure. The coordinator, who took great care of us, displayed a high level of professionalism. When weather conditions prevented planes from flying to Lukla, he swiftly arranged a helicopter ride for me, ensuring my travel plans remained on track. Furthermore, my airport transfers in Kathmandu were always punctual, thanks to the efficient coordination by the team.

During my Kathmandu city tour, guided by Milan KC, I was thoroughly impressed. Milan's extensive knowledge of the area and his genuine passion for the sites we visited made the experience truly memorable. In fact, when I couldn't finish my spicy meal, Milan kindly treated me to a second lunch, exemplifying his thoughtfulness and generosity.

My sherpa and guide  was absolutely remarkable. His lively personality and contagious energy made the two-week trek an absolute pleasure. Wangchhu displayed exceptional care for his clients, ensuring their well-being every step of the way.

As a solo female traveler, I felt completely safe and comfortable throughout my entire trip in Nepal with Sole Encounters. Their attention to detail and dedication to providing a secure environment were commendable.

Without a doubt, I will be booking another trip with Sole Encounters Trekking Company in Nepal in the future. I wholeheartedly recommend them to everyone seeking a remarkable and reliable local tour company. They truly embody the essence of the best local tour company in Nepal

Positive feedback

4th July, 2023

Overall, our experience with Sole Encounters Trekking Company was overwhelmingly positive. We were especially grateful for the availability and support provided by Prem, which truly enhanced our trip. Our guide proved to be attentive and supportive throughout the journey.

However, we encountered a minor setback due to unfavorable weather conditions in Lukla, which necessitated an additional expense of $400 for a helicopter ride. Despite the unexpected cost, we found the helicopter ride to be a fantastic experience that we thoroughly enjoyed.

Without a doubt, we are already considering booking another trip with Sole Encounters Trekking Company in the future. We wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone in search of a reliable and remarkable local tour company. Their commitment to excellence truly shines through, as our trip went incredibly smoothly. Our guide and sherpas were not only awesome but also incredibly helpful, and we already miss their presence

An unforgettable adventure in the Himalayas.

4th July, 2023

Our Mount Everest Base Camp Trek with Sole Encounters Trekking was truly awesome. The team at Sole Encounters Trekking went above and beyond to ensure that our experience was nothing short of remarkable. Despite a one-day delay in our flight, they swiftly adjusted our plans and provided separate guides for our group and the three individuals in my party.

Additionally, the team worked tirelessly to overcome challenging weather conditions towards the end of our tour. They coordinated a helicopter to transport us back to Kathmandu, ensuring our safety and convenience. Their dedication and efforts were truly commendable.

Our guide, Pasang Sherpa, along with our porters, exceeded our expectations. Pasang Sherpa took exceptional care of us throughout the trek, making sure we had the best possible experience. His engaging nature, professionalism, and attentiveness made the journey even more memorable. In fact, my daughter had such a fantastic time that she hopes to return and tackle some of the larger mountains with Sole Encounters Trekking.

The views along the trek were breathtaking, and the warm and friendly nature of the Nepalese people added to the overall charm of the experience. Despite being almost 64 years old, I found the trek challenging at times in the higher altitudes, but not overly difficult. It provided me with a great life experience that I will cherish forever. Every step of the trek was worth it.

In conclusion, we highly recommend Sole Encounters Trekking as a tour company in Nepal. Their commitment to ensuring a memorable and enjoyable trek, along with their professionalism and exceptional guides, makes them a top choice for anyone seeking an unforgettable adventure in the Himalayas.
